Through the screen

In the initial days of COVID-19 lockdown it was fun and holiday like but soon the layers of happiness washed off as people understood the severity of the virus. My mind was in a state where I could not stop wondering and drawing parallels between the video game “Resident Evil by Capcom” and the situation we were in. In the game a virus outbreak causes the entire city to be evacuated or stay inside their houses for survival and we were doing the same to survive and fight Covid.

Educational institutes underwent a major change and were forced to move to an online platform. The online classes were a great idea in theory but in practice it was like trying to entertain a class filled with hooligans. As a student it was a learning process with its own pros and cons.

The best part about the classes were the comfort of walls around me. I got used to these walls so much that now I don’t feel like leaving this comfort. Comfort cam with its own cost my eyes and spine have suffered a lot due to just sitting for hours.

The classes somehow gave me the confidence to speak and give presentations, even approaching someone through text is less intimidating as I was not able to see any reaction from the other side. But the problem will arise when I am unable to link the person to their name or even remember their identity due to the short lived screen time they get.

My heart aches for people my age and younger who gave away their youth and the learning process which is acquired from the environment. I love to travel around alone or with people and the euphoric experience it gives me is something I cannot express through words. But in these past years I realised how important it is to cherish every moment.
