HOW NOT TO SHOP FROM H&M

H&M a multinational clothing company is a Stockholm-based entity. H&M has been popular for its designs, prints, and styles; majorly among youngsters who have limited buying capacity with the want to look fashionable and trendy. It can get really difficult to stop the urge from shopping from the brand. So here are some tips and reasons to stop yourself: -

• Comparability – Sometimes comparing the same clothes from a different non-popularized brand could be more affordable as well as provide better product quality.

• Sustainability – The courage of the brand to shift its goal towards sustainability seems like a joke in itself. H&M has been one of the largest producers of clothes in the market where a large portion when to landfills.

• Fast Fashion – Clothes should not be treated like tissue papers use and throw. Clothes take a huge amount of resources both labor and materials to be produced.

• Work ethics – If u check the manufacturing tag on these shops you’ll find out most of it is produced in Asia. Countries like India, Bangladesh, Singapore, etc. are being exploited. Today this company has net sales of around 20.2 billion USD is refusing to pay a fair wage to the laborers.

It would bring a new revolution and change in how we consume and give importance to clothes from just the superficial value to the narrative hidden behind it. I am very well aware as I speak from a privileged position of having the economic feasibility of buying from a better brand and talking about morality and sustainability. This article is not to shame or morally police anyone who buys from H&M; how one spends their capacity is none of my business. It’s a question we all must ask ourselves whether the clothes I buy come from a good workspace. Shaming people is not a solution but just restricting the purpose into being a straightjacket solution as it limits the possibility for consumers to buy from the brand and shift to the next best alternative.
